Colorado Cyclocross Fall 2007 Season Galleries

193 photos of the Colorado ACA State 2007 Cyclocross Championships Lyons 12/4 "Snow Lyons" : Cyclocross photos (193 pictures) taken at the races for the Colorado ACA State 2007 Cyclocross Championships, 12/4/2007. These races took place in Lyons, Colorado, literally at the foot of the Rockey Mountains. There was a fairly heavy snowfall the night before.The temperature never got over 17 degrees Fahrenheit (-8 Celsius) all during race day. The heats averaged 40 minutes or more, creating challenging conditions. Fortunately, it was mostly sunny. As you will see, the course combined faster sections through a large open space with somewhat more technical sections winding through the woods. Though most of these photos are shown in chronological order, I have taken the liberty of occasionally juxtaposing shots of riders from different heats for narrative purposes. As might be expected in a bike race held in Colorado, the skill level of the riders ranged from "weekend warriors" to world champion class competitors. 154 photos of the Boulder Fall 2007 Cyclocross Series / Louisville 11/24 "The Louisville Bowl" : Cyclocross photos (154 pictures) taken on 11/24/2007 in Louisville Colorado. These races were part of Fall, 2007, Boulder Cyclocross racing series. The temperature was about 40 degrees Fahrenheit (4 Celsius) all day. There had been a light snow fall the day before. Unfortunately, the meager snow melt failed to produce the truly deep, muddy conditions that Cyclocross fans adore. As you will see, the course was still challenging, repeatedly climbing up and down the steep bowl-like sides of a wide and very deep "flood park," which was built to catch and store flash floods. Though most of theses photos are shown here in chronological order, I have take the liberty of occasionally juxtaposing shots of riders from different heats for narrative purposes. 130 photos of the Boulder Fall 2007 Cyclocross Series/Boulder Reservoir 10/27 "On the Beach" : Cyclocross photos (130 pictures) taken at Boulder reservoir in October 2007. The race was part of Fall 1997 Boulder (CO) cyclocross racing series. The course ran up and down a rolling, sandy beach and then across a long back stretch that included fast pavement sections and open fields. The heavy sand proved especially challenging and taxing. Some parts of the course had the consistency of wet cement, challenging a rider's bike handling skills and endurance. Photos reproduce best when you select "Large" image size. 70 photos of the Boulder Fall 2007 Cyclocross Series / Broomfield 10/20 "A Walk in the Park?" : Cyclocross photos (70 pictures) from races that took place at Interlochen business park in Broomfield, CO, as part of the Fall 1997 Boulder Cyclocross racing series. Unseasonably warm weather, riotously colorful fall foliage, and terrain that resembled a rolling, well groomed golf course by a lake, all contributed to a surrealy civilized environment for the normally gritty cyclocross race. Don't worry, as you'll see, there was still plenty of suffering to be had by all participants. Most of these photos are fine tuned black & white adaptations of color pictures appearing in a my other galleries, though some are unique to this one. I have a love for black & white that goes way back to my novice days in "The Darkroom," a co-op in Denver CO, where I first learned the joys of Plus-X film, 1 to 100 Rodinal & Agfa photo paper. Photos look best when you select "Large" image size. Digital black & white photos usually reproduce best on good CRT (tube type) computer monitors, rather than the newer LCD monitors, which give grainier images.
